Farm soils underpin farm profitability. Maintaining optimum soil pH, phosphorus (P) and potash (K) status, along with good soil structure, is essential to maximise both farm efficiency and yield potential.

Acidic soils could be affecting growth on nearly half of Scotland's farms. A new report from SRUC analysed 273 soil samples from around the country. The results showed that almost half of the soil samples had a pH below 5.8. The optimum pH for grassland is 6.0 and for arable is 6.2.
